purple ribbons, clothesline project for DVAM
We keep getting alerts about youth driven Domestic Violence Awareness Month events across the country, and we wanted to give a few some attention here -
- The Women’s Center at University of Nebraska – Lincoln is hosting a Week Without Violence from Oct 13-18. Check out the full lineup of events – among them is the Clothesline Project. Students will create a t-shirt and hang them on a clothesline for display.
- New Canaan students got the word out with purple ribbons and purple awareness bracelets as part of an anti-bullying week.
October isn’t over people! There’s still time to do your own thing (and let us know about it).

I was wondering if there was an offical ribon that is being handed out. Also if there is where can i get them? If you could let me know that would be great! Thanks

New Canaan has had great support from our teens to help bring about awareness and change behaviors in our town. We had groups of girls, groups of teens adn some sport teams help ina variety of projects aimed at making people aware of the issue and getting people information they need in order to get help.
Some things we did in New Canaan:
-youth read a speech denouncing dating abuse at a town proclamation
-handed out information and freebies like bracelets, water bottles and pens with DA information.
-a group of students went to our communter train at 5:30am to hand out information to many of our town fathers.
-the girls soccer team wore purple hair ties during games
-students read awareness messages over the loudspeaker all month
-hung banners at the football field and in town
-a group of students hung 120 purple ribbons throughout our downtown area
-students at the middle school signed a pledge that they would respect eachother and would do something if they saw people in conflict.
-our students heard from speaker Joe Ehrmann a message about respecting others and ourselves
This is a short list of the many many tasks our community and our kids took on this year.
